Background: The Soto-Wright family created this scholarship to honour the commitment Velma and George had to family, community, and education. The Wrights are direct descendants of Surveyor General Thomas Wright, who brought his family to PEI in 1769. George's book, The Surveying Wrights, documents the family's role in Island history. George excelled in business, receiving the Queen Jubilee Gold and Diamond Medals, recognizing his contribution to public life. His mother, Marion Wright, was an RN with postgraduate education in public health. Their daughter Valena Wright (MD) was a recipient of a UPEI scholarship, graduated from Dalhousie Medical School completing her residency and fellowship in Gynecology Oncology at Brigham and WomenÕs Hospital in Boston where she has a clinical practice at TUFTS. Ivan, Natalie, and Adrianna are fortunate to have spent summers on the Island, and all have pursued careers in business, which helped make this scholarship possible.
