Location:
W.A. Murphy Student Centre
Room:
The Wave
The PEI Coalition for Women in Government along with the UPEI Political Studies Society will host a panel discussion on youth in politics. The participants in this panel will discuss how youth can become more engaged in the political process, whether provincially, federally or in other ways. Speakers for this event will include NDP MP for the Quebec riding of Argentueil - Papineau - Mirabel, Mylene Freeman, who was among the “Quebec five”, students elected to the House of Commons in the federal election last April. This event aims to encourage more young people to be involved in politics, either by running for office, campaigning for a political party or in other ways.
The appearance in the news of issues relevant to young people, such as the recent protests in Quebec over tuition rises, makes the participation of youth in politics more important than ever. When issues that impact young people come to the forefront youth must know how to make their voices heard, whatever their views are.
The youth in government panel discussion will be held at The Wave, UPEI Murphy Student Centre on Tuesday, the 9th of October at 7pm. All are encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be provided.
