On September 24, 1998, the Government of Canada officially proclaimed the last Sunday of September of every year as Police and Peace Officers' National Memorial Day. It is an annual opportunity to formally express appreciation for the dedication of police and peace officers who lost their lives in the line of duty and to offer condolences to the surviving families of those who gave their lives in the service of their communities. The day will be observed at a provincial service at Trinity United Church, 90 Spring Street, Summerside, PEI, on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at 2:00 pm. UPEI will mark the day by lowering the flags to half-mast.
