On PEI, the week leading up to TDOR, November 13–20, serves to raise awareness of/increase visibility of transgender issues, particularly intimate partner violence. Transgender Awareness Week is a week when transgender people and their allies take action to bring attention to the community by educating the public about who transgender people are, sharing stories and experiences, and advancing advocacy around issues of prejudice, discrimination, and violence that affect the transgender community.

UPEI welcomes diversity and is committed to creating a culture of trust, safety, and inclusion for transgender people. Together, we can foster a campus community of inclusivity and support, ensuring that everyone feels safe and valued. For a list of supports, visit UPEI’s Department of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Human Rights web site to access the “Find Supports and Services” web pages.

UPEI will observe TDOR by flying the transgender flag and lowering all flags on campus to half-mast, and many will join the broader Island community at the Trans Day of Remembrance Vigil on November 20 from 12:00–1:00 pm at the PEERS Alliance office at 250B Queen Street, Charlottetown.
