Model Senate is a unique mock parliament experience that gives university and college students aged 18 to 30 the opportunity to step into senators’ shoes for a weekend, develop new skills and network with like-minded peers. The next edition of Model Senate will take place from Thursday, May 7, to Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Senate of Canada Building in Ottawa. Applications are now open!

As model senators, successful applicants will have the opportunity to:

• Gain a deeper understanding of how Canada’s Upper Chamber functions and how senators serve Canadians in Parliament.
• Debate bills and policy issues during simulations of Senate sittings and committee meetings.
• Get face time with senators, Senate Administration staff and fellow participants through meet-and-greets and networking opportunities.
• Receive training from experts in parliamentary procedure.
• Access career advice and inspiration.
