Employment Officer - Human Resources Department *Amended Position Title*
$74,230 - $82,297 per annum

This position will report to the Manager of HR Employment and Labour Relations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Employment Officer is responsible for hiring and staffing, providing guidance on employment related processes and ensuring compliance with all relevant policies, collective agreements, labour law and regulations. This position will work closely with the HR Officer.
Recruitment and Selection
- Coordinating the hiring process, including posting job openings, reviewing applications, conducting interviews, and making job offers
- Provide guidance to hiring managers regarding staff and student recruitment and selection
- Approve job postings, sit on hiring committees as the HR representative and coordinate and guide selection committees
- Participate in selection interviews, and coordinate tests/assessments
- Ensure compliance with all collective agreements, policies and standard operating procedures, legislation and EDI requirements.
- Conduct reference checks and make verbal offers of employment to selected candidates
- Initiate the preparation of formal contracts and letters of offer
- Support employee onboarding and orientation programs to ensure new staff members are integrated into the university community.
- Participate in job evaluation process
- Assist with other Human Resources activities and other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
Overall, a combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and personal qualities will be considered.
- Bachelor's Human Resources, Organizational Development, or a related field
- Proven experience in recruitment, organizational development, HR policy, labour relations and talent acquisition.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and build relationships.
- Creative problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to engagement initiatives
- Knowledge and/or experience applying principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion in hiring and employment processes would be considered an asset.
Strong computer skills including proficiency in computerized HRIS/Payroll systems, spreadsheets and database software.
