The School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences is seeking applications for up to two (2) temporary student research assistant positions.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • These positions are required to work in lab and field environments under the direction of Dr. Gurjit Randhawa to collect geo-referenced soil, water, and environmental samples
  • The incumbents are required to assist with data, geo-positional devices, and analysis of data using geographical information system (GIS) and artificial intelligence tools 
  • The incumbents are required to prepare training, validation, and testing datasets for economically viable models to ensure profitability and sustainability 
  • The incumbents are required to assist with data preparation for modelling, image labelling and classification for infected diseased plants  
  • The incumbents are required to assist with the development of soil classification, land use, land cover and GHG modelling
  • The incumbents are required to assist with prediction and forecasting using climatic variables using machine learning tools
  • The incumbents are required to manage data repositories
  • The students will be trained in sustainable technologies. The students will be encouraged to participate in meetings and participate in conferences

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Must have good professional and technical skills  
  • Must have a good academic record and a strong work ethic  
  • Must have project management and version control skills 
  • Ability to work in a team and independently 
  • Willingness to work in lab and field environments 
  • Valid driver’s licence  
  • Willingness to travel within Atlantic Provinces to collect research data

Priority will be given to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and the Procedures manual.
