Salary:

$35.29 per hour (plus 4%), as per CUPE 1870

Term:

February 26 to August 30, 2024 (Term may be reduced or extended depending on performance, available funding, and departmental requirements)      

The UPEI English Language Centre is seeking qualified individuals to teach EAP courses in its short-term customized and general undergraduate programs during the 2024 spring and summer sessions, with possible casual work available between February and April 2024. Information about the English language programs offered at the UPEI English Language Centre is available at https://www.upei.ca/english-language-centre.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaching academic English (speaking, reading, writing, and listening) from high beginner to advanced proficiency level
  • Prepare and execute formative and summative course-based assessments
  • Curriculum development & lesson planning
  • Participation in staff meetings
  • Provide student assistance and feedback on class work
  • Facilitation of some special events and/or workshops as needed
  • Upholding the policies and regulations of the UPEI English Language Centre programs
  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Education degree
  • Master of Education degree
  • Teaching experience in EAL/EAP programming (oral communications, reading comprehension, academic writing)
  • Experience working in cross-cultural environments.
  • Demonstrated excellence in oral and written English proficiency

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching English as a Second Language degree
  • Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language / Teaching English as an Additional Language
