The Department of Psychology at the University of Prince Edward Island has an opening for a sessional instructor during the forthcoming Summer 2026 semester (May 1st, 2026, to August 31st, 2026). All positions are subject to final budgetary approval.

PSY 6501 – Assessment Practicum

Students are required to complete a minimum of 200 practicum hours focusing on assessment activities at the UPEI Psychology Clinic, working about equally with adult and child/adolescent clients. Students also attend clinical teaching sessions and rounds relevant to specific issues relevant to psychology practice within the UPEI Psychology Clinic. Students are also provided with opportunities to engage in community outreach focused on the provision of intervention to underserved communities.

The successful candidate will provide clinical supervision to doctoral students completing their Assessment Practicum (PSY 6501) at the UPEI Psychology Training Clinic. The supervisor will guide students in completing psychological assessments, including clinical interviewing, the administration and interpretation of psychological assessment measures, the development of conceptualizations/formulations, the provision of feedback to clients, and the preparation of comprehensive and integrated written reports. Supervision will include individual supervision meetings and may include group supervision.

Students entering the practicum have completed foundational coursework in psychometrics, psychological assessment, psychopathology, diagnosis, and professional ethics. The practicum emphasizes the development of integrative assessment skills within an ecological, multi-method, and multi-source model of assessment, including clinical interviews, developmental history, diagnostic interviews, and standardized measures with both adult and child/adolescent clients.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate should be a Registered Psychologist with the PEI Psychologists Registration Board. Preference will be given to clinical psychologists with experience supervising university graduate clinical psychology students in a university psychology training clinic setting.

Preference will be given to the qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster and full-time and term contract Faculty Members of the Academic unit.
