Assistant Professor- Ruminant Health Management - Three Year Term - Department of Health Management - Atlantic Veterinary College

The Department of Health Management at the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), University of Prince Edward Island, invites applications for a full-time, 3-year term faculty position in Ruminant Health Management. The appointment will be made at the Assistant Professor level, depending on qualifications and experience.
This appointment is subject to budgetary approval.
Required qualifications:
• DVM degree (or equivalent) and postgraduate degree
• Be eligible for licensure by the Prince Edward Island Veterinary Medical Association. Details on eligibility can be found at http://www.peivma.com/
• Be a lifelong learner with a keen understanding and desire to maintain skills and knowledge in dairy economics, nutrition, reproduction, and mastitis on the herd level, while still being able to address individual animal health management
• Be strongly motivated to teach
• Have a track record of excellent clinical services in routine livestock primary care
• Have well-developed skills of collaboration, relationship-building, and communication
Assets:
• Research experience with infectious diseases and/or immune-medicated diseases
• Understand immunology sufficiently to teach an immunology course to DVM students
• Strong interest in small ruminant health management
Responsibilities and Duties:
The Farm Service caseload in ruminants consists of dairy (~80%), beef (~15%), and sheep and goats (~5%). The successful applicant will share teaching, clinical, and emergency duties with four other Farm Service faculty members. To be successful, the applicant must be an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher and have a strong interest in clinical service and teaching. In addition to the provision of clinical service to cattle, sheep, and goat farms, duties will include teaching ruminant health management in clinical, laboratory, and didactic settings in the DVM program, and teaching an immunology course in the DVM program. The successful candidate will also be expected to conduct applied research in ruminant health management and collaborate with other AVC faculty in the field of ruminant health research.
The successful applicant will join an established dairy health management team with active teaching, research, and service. For research, they will have access to CL2 laboratories through the successful Maritime Dairy Laboratory Service (MDLS), a key component of the AVC dairy research program – Maritime Quality Milk (MQM).
The salary range is commensurate with credentials and experience. Full-time, term faculty members receive a comprehensive fringe benefit package, with benefit details provided at time of offer in accordance with the collective agreement. This appointment is subject to budgetary approval.
