The Department of History and Classics at the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for a Sessional Instructor for the 2025 Fall Semester. We are seeking an instructor to teach the following course in the Department of History and Classics. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

Please note: the course offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course. 

HIST 3310 – History of Prince Edward Island – Pre-Confederation

This study of Prince Edward Island until 1873 traces the island’s history from pre-history through to the colony’s reluctant entry into Confederation. Topics will include the nature and impact of settlement in the colony, the French Regime, the development of colonial institutions and the colonial economy, the struggle for Responsible Government, and the influence of the land tenure system on the economic, political, and social development of the Island.

PREREQUISITES: Second Year standing or above, or permission of the instructor
Lecture: Three hours a week 

In-Person Course: Tuesdays from 17:30 to 20:30 during the Fall Semester 2025.

Qualifications:
 

Successful applicants will have a graduate degree or a doctoral degree in Atlantic Canadian history. Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI sessional roster for History and Classics and full-time and term contract Faculty Members of the Academic unit.
