Sessional Instructors - Department of Biology - Faculty of Science (Fall 2025)
The Department of Biology at the University of Prince Edward Island has openings for Sessional Instructors for the Fall 2025 semester for the following courses. These positions are subject to final budgetary approval.
Please note: the courses offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.
BIO 3310 - Communication Research Methods in Biology
This course is an introduction to research methods and the basic principles of scientific communication, as expressed in the Biological Sciences. Lectures, exercises and assignments focus on science writing, critical reading, the principles of study design, and the analysis, interpretation, and presentation of biological data.
PREREQUISITE: Biology 3310T - Must be taken at the same time as this course.
Take Biology 1310 Biology 1320 and 3 Biology courses at the 2000 level or above. - Must be completed prior to taking this course.
Three lecture hours per week
Although this course includes a tutorial component, the instructor will only be responsible for the lecture component of this course (M/W/F 8:30-9:20am).
BIO 4050 - Medical Biology
This course extends principles of biochemistry, physiology and molecular biology in the context of human diseases and treatment. Using a case-study and discussion format, the course explores advanced studies in biochemical pathways in humans, molecular regulation of biochemistry, human diseases related to altered biochemical pathways, and pharmacology. 3 hours lectures per week.
PREREQUISITES: Biology 1310, 1320, and 1220 or 3260; Biology 2230 or 2240; and Biology 2250 or 3260. Students in the BSc Paramedicine program may take Bio-4050 after Bio-1310. - Must be completed prior to taking this course.

M/W/F 1:30-2:20pm
BIO 4620 - Watershed Ecology
The focus of this course is the study of watersheds, with emphasis on those found on Prince Edward Island. Lectures focus on the physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of streams and their surrounding riparian zones, and labs will include practical application of stream sampling methods.
PREREQUISITES: Biology 1310, 1320 and 2220 or permission of instructor - Must be completed prior to taking this course. Biology 4620L - Must be taken at the same time as this course.
Three hours lecture, three hours laboratory a week
Please note that the instructor will be responsible for teaching both the lecture component (T/TH 11:30-12:45pm) and the lab component (M 11:30-2:20pm)
Qualifications:
Successful applicants should hold a master’s degree in an environmental or related field, or an equivalent combination of qualifications and experience in the subject area for the course. Applicants should have experience in teaching, research, or practice related to the course content.
Preference will be given to the qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster and full-time and term contract Faculty Members of the Academic unit.
