The Faculty of Education at the University of Prince Edward Island has openings for sessional instructors to teach the following courses in fall 2025. The offering of each course listed is conditional pending final enrolment numbers. All positions are subject to final budgetary and administrative approval. 

Please note: the courses offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online or hybrid course.

ED 3640-99 - Assessment of Adult Learning (1 section, hybrid delivery)

This course introduces students to essential assessment principles and practices to enhance their teaching effectiveness. Participants will explore key topics such as formative and summative assessment, high-yield assessment techniques, effective feedback strategies, and the use of data to inform and improve instructional practices.

This course is in our Certificate of Adult Education program and is offered in a hybrid format (a blend of in-person delivery on UPEI campus and online) on Mondays from 5:30pm to 8:15pm, September 8 to November 18, 2025.

ED 4280-3 - Math au primaire 2 (taught in French)

A continuation of Education 4230, this course further examines and extends the pedagogy of Primary/Elementary focusing on how children conceptualize mathematics and instructional methods required to foster children’s numeracy skills.

This course is offered in French to students in the primary/elementary cohort of our BEd (français langue seconde) program.  The course is offered Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:30pm to 3:15pm, September 3 to October 16, 2025.

ED 4961-1 - Preparation for the Teaching Profession I 

Through a series of seminars, students will prepare for the role for a professional career. Topics will include teaching philosophy, classroom management and organization, teacher resilience, legal and ethical responsibilities, preparation for in-school experience, teacher certification, resume writing, questioning and presentation skills.

This course is offered to students in the primary/elementary cohort of our Bachelor of Education program.  The course is offered Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30am to 11:15am, September 3 to October 10, 2025.

ED 4962 Practicum 1 (up to 3 sections)

Students will complete a 9-week teaching placement in a PEI public school with the guidance of a practicum Faculty advisor and a host mentor teacher. Students undertake planning and teaching effective lessons, develop personal classroom management strategies, and use strategies from methods courses to facilitate and assess student learning. Feedback from the host mentor teacher and faculty advisor will inform self- assessment and personal professional growth.

This course primarily involves in-school supervision of pre-service teachers, as well as 3-4 meetings with groups of students during the semester. This course is offered from October 20 to December 11, 2025.

Note: The public school system requires that all instructors possess a clean and valid criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening 

ED 6150-78 - Educational Leadership

In this course, students examine the field of educational leadership. Educational leadership extends beyond the role of the school administrator and focuses upon the development of teachers as leaders who impact on creating effective educational environments. Students research aspects of leadership that impact on schools, and explore models of effective leadership through case studies and simulation.

This course is offered to students in our MEd Focus on Global Perspectives, Mondays, from 8:30am to 11:15am, September 3 to December 4, 2025.

ED 6310-76 - Leadership in Postcolonial Education

In this course, students consider postcolonial history and key texts as they critically examine a variety of theoretical frameworks within postcolonial education. The postcolonial context of education within particular Indigenous and colonized societies provides a major focus for the course. The role of educational leaders in negotiating complex changes in specific contexts is considered.

This course is offered to students in our MEd Focus on Global Perspectives, Mondays, from 12:30pm to 3:15pm, September 3 to December 4, 2025.

Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will have a Masters of Education or equivalent degree.  Successful candidates will normally have school-based experience in a Canadian public K-12 system.  For applicants without school-based experience, teaching in other contexts relevant and appropriate to the position will be considered. Applicants should have experience in teaching, research or practice related to the course content. 

Instructors accepting on-line and hybrid courses are expected to have sufficient internet bandwidth and technology available to deliver the course on-line.

Qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Faculty of Education’s Sessional Roster and the Faculty’s full-time and term contract faculty members will be given priority.
