The Faculty of Education at the University of Prince Edward Island has openings for sessional instructors to teach the following courses in winter 2027. The offering of each course listed is conditional pending final enrolment numbers. All positions are subject to final budgetary and administrative approval.
Please note: the courses offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.
ED-4280 Primary/Elementary Mathematics II – (1 French section)
A continuation of Education 4230, this course further examines and extends the pedagogy of Primary/Elementary, focusing on how children conceptualize mathematics and instructional methods required to foster children’s numeracy skills.
Section 3 is offered in French to students in the primary/elementary cohort of our Bachelor of Education (français langue seconde) program, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm, January 4 to February 4, 2027.
ED-4972 Practicum II (3 French sections)
Students will complete a 10-week teaching placement with the guidance of a Faculty practicum advisor and a host mentor. Students will further develop planning and teaching effective lessons, themes, and unit plans, personal classroom management skills, and assessment.
This course primarily involves in-school supervision of up to ten pre-service teachers as well as 3-4 meetings with groups of students during the semester. This course is offered from February 8 to April 30, 2027.
Note: The public school system requires that all instructors possess a clean and valid criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening
Qualifications:
Ideal candidates will have a Master of Education or equivalent degree. Successful candidates will normally have school-based experience in a Canadian public K-12 system. For applicants without school-based experience, teaching in other contexts relevant and appropriate to the position will be considered. Applicants should have experience in teaching, research or practice related to the course content.
Instructors teaching online courses are expected to have sufficient internet bandwidth and technology available to deliver the course online.
Qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Faculty of Education’s Sessional Roster and the Faculty’s full-time and term contract faculty members will be given priority.
