MTS Level 5 - Library Technician - Archives and Special Collections Library - Robertson Library
$50,316 – $55,319 per annum, as per CUPE 1870

The Robertson Library is seeking a qualified library technician to fill a position in the University Archives & Special Collections (UASC) area, providing services to students, staff, and faculty of the University and to the general public. In addition, this position includes some shifts on the Library’s main Service Desk. The successful candidate would be expected to demonstrate judgment, flexibility, and initiative, to implement policies and procedures set by the Library, and to work cooperatively with Library staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the University Librarian and the University Archivist and Special Collections Librarian, the tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:
University Archives and Special Collections duties
- Processing of UASC materials
- Shelving, arranging, and transferring UASC materials
- Assisting with the preparation and/or maintenance of UASC-related content for the Library website, research guides, finding aids, PEI Periodicals Articles Database, PEI Online Documents collection, and public displays of UASC resources
- Provision of patron access to UASC materials
- Under the direction of the UASC Librarian, responding to patron inquiries, in-person and via telephone / e-mail
- Assisting with tasks and workflows for the preservation, digitization and storage of UASC materials
- Assisting with the monitoring and assessment of UASC policies and procedures
Service Desk duties
- Working regular shifts on the Library’s Service Desk
- Assisting library users locating and using library materials, services, and technology (eg. copiers, printers, scanners, common software applications)
- Providing information/reference service in-person, by telephone, and online via the Library’s virtual chat service
- Circulation and check-in of library resources, laptops, etc.
- Helping supervise student assistants
- Conducting introductory Library tours
- Other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
- A Library Technician Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience
- At least two years’ experience in an academic library environment, archive, special collection, and/or museum
- Demonstrated strong customer service orientation
- Effective technology skills including proficiency with MS Office/Google Workspace applications
- Able to perform bending/lifting tasks, and to safely handle/shelve heavy items
- Able to work day, evening, and weekend shifts as scheduled
ASSETS:
- Bachelor's degree from a recognized post- secondary institution
- Work experience in a university library
- Knowledge of the Rules for Archival Description (RAD)
- Knowledge of the history of PEI and/or of UPEI
- Experience editing web content
- An open attitude towards new technology.
