The UPEI Health and Wellness Centre is seeking a creative, organized, and detail-oriented Student Assistant - Online Learning to support the development of a Moodle-based online course for the CHANGE Program, an evidence based, 12-month lifestyle intervention developed by Metabolic Syndrome Canada. The program provides free, client centered nutrition education and supervised exercise sessions led by a Registered Dietitian and Kinesiologist, helping participants build sustainable, long-term improvements in their health.

Reporting to the CHANGE Program team, the Student Assistant - Online Learning will lead the development of a structured, interactive Moodle course by converting existing print-based patient materials into high quality digital learning modules. The successful candidate will apply principles of adult learning, instructional design, and accessibility to enhance the delivery of patient education in an online format.

This position is ideal for a student with a background or strong interest in Education, Adult Learning, Design, or Technology, who is looking to gain hands on experience in transforming health education materials into accessible, user friendly digital learning resources.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will support the CHANGE Program through the following activities:

Moodle Course Development

  • Convert existing print-based patient education materials into digital modules for Moodle
  • Organize course content into clear, engaging, student centered learning pathways
  • Create online lessons, pages, quizzes, checklists, and multimedia learning activities
  • Ensure all materials meet accessibility standards (e.g., alt text, readable formatting)
  • Integrate downloadable resources, worksheets, and handouts into the online platform
     

Instructional Design & Content Enhancement

  • Apply adult learning principles to improve clarity, engagement, and usability
  • Break down health information into clear, learner friendly language
  • Create visual learning aids such as infographics, charts, or simplified diagrams
  • Recommend layout, sequencing, and strategies to improve learning flow
  • Collaborate with program clinicians to ensure content accuracy and alignment with best practices
     

Program Support & Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Registered Dietitian, Kinesiologist, and to interpret educational needs
  • Gather feedback from team members and revise course modules accordingly
  • Document Moodle procedures, templates, and style guidelines for future updates
  • Assist with minor administrative or resource related tasks as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a current UPEI student
  • Strong interest in online learning and/or digital resource creation
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Experience with Moodle or other learning management systems is an asset (training provided)
  • Strong organizational, time management, and project coordination skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team
  • Interest in health promotion, wellness, or community education is an asset but not required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Canva or similar design tools is an asset
