The UPEI Health and Wellness Centre is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Applied Health Science Student to support the CHANGE Program, a 12-month, evidence-based lifestyle intervention developed by Metabolic Syndrome Canada. The program provides free, client-centered nutrition education and supervised exercise sessions led by a Registered Dietitian and a Kinesiologist, with the goal of helping individuals make sustainable, long-term improvements to their health. This position offers an excellent opportunity for students interested in gaining hands-on experience in knowledge transfer in the fields of health research, nutrition, physical activity, and chronic disease prevention.

Reporting to the CHANGE Program team, the Student Assistant will assist with participant engagement, program delivery, and knowledge management. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing and creating an information portal for CHANGE participants. They will assist with research operations and contribute to the ongoing development and evaluation of the program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will support the CHANGE Program through the following activities:

  • Facilitate the planning, design, implementation and usage of a user-friendly online course in Moodle for participants to access program materials
  • Work closely with the study team to gather content requirements and user needs
  • Initiate training opportunities and tutorials to support usage by program participants
  • Participate in quality assurance testing and feedback cycles to refine the user experience
  • Develop procedural manual for managing online course
  • Create promotional materials to increase program visibility
  • Update website content to reflect current program information and best practices
  • Enhance presentation materials based on the latest research and evidence
  • Update and maintain accurate records
  • Perform additional administrative and research-related duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Health Sciences (e.g. Nursing, Kinesiology, Nutrition) or a related field
  • Demonstrated interest in health promotion and chronic disease prevention
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable working in a collaborative team environment
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written communication skills and creative design skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with design platforms such as Canva an asset
