The UPEI Health and Wellness Centre provides inclusive, accessible, and evidence informed health services that support student success, retention, and overall well-being. To advance campus wide health promotion efforts and strengthen student engagement, the Centre is seeking a Student Assistant - Wellness Engagement & Programs.

This student position plays a key role in the design, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion programs and peer led initiatives that translate research and best practices into practical, student-centered programming. The successful candidate will contribute directly to preventative health efforts, early intervention, and enhanced awareness of wellness resources across campus.

Reporting to the Manager and working closely with the Peer Wellness Coordinator, this role supports strategic priorities by:

  • Expanding the reach and consistency of wellness programming across campus
  • Increasing student engagement through peer informed, accessible initiatives
  • Supporting the implementation and sustainability of a Peer Health Education Program

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will support the Health and Wellness Centre through the following activities:

Health Promotion and Student Engagement 

  • Plan and deliver evidence informed health promotion activities, including outreach tables, pop up initiatives, and themed campaigns aligned with campus health priorities
  • Develop clear, engaging, and accessible educational materials (e.g. handouts, interactive activities, digital content) to support events and initiatives
  • Engage directly with students to increase participation, encourage help seeking behaviour, and foster a welcoming, inclusive environment within wellness initiatives
  • Track participation and engagement outcomes to support reporting and program improvement
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and coordination of peer volunteers 
     

Campus Collaboration and Outreach

  • Collaborate with student groups, residences, Athletics, and campus partners to deliver wellness programming beyond the Health and Wellness Centre
  • Identify opportunities to integrate wellness initiatives into existing campus events, orientations, and awareness campaigns
  • Support relationship building efforts that strengthen cross campus collaboration and increase visibility of Health and Wellness Centre services
     

Event Planning and Program Delivery Support 

  • Assist with the logistical planning and delivery of health promotion events and campaigns, including material preparation, setup, and on site engagement
  • Contribute to a professional, welcoming, and well organized presentation of programs and events
  • Support post event follow up, including basic data tracking and reflection to inform future programming
     

QUALIFICATIONS:    

  • Must be a current student at UPEI in Health Sciences (e.g. Nursing, Kinesiology, Nutrition, Psychology) or a related field
  • Demonstrated interest in health promotion, student engagement, or wellness programming
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a genuine interest in engaging and interacting with students
  • Comfortable initiating conversations and facilitating activities in group and event-based settings
  • Creative and resourceful, with the ability to develop engaging and student-friendly programming and materials
  • Well-organized with strong time-management skills and the ability to balance multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Experience with workshops, peer education, event support, or student leadership roles is considered an asset
