The Department of Biomedical Sciences is seeking applications from interested candidates for casual work within multiple cardiometabolic projects. The successful candidate(s) will work under the direction of the Principal Investigator, Dr. Joseph Gordon.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cell culture
  • Fluorescent microscopy
  • Pipetting 
  • RNA and protein extractions
  • qPCR and western blotting
  • Tissue processing
  • Laboratory duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator or Research Technician

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • DVM student or undergraduate student in biology preferred
  • Demonstrated interest in basic laboratory techniques
  • Ability to be trained in basic laboratory techniques, such as pipetting
  • Willingness to be trained and to follow established laboratory safety procedures under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and/or Technician
  • Ability to pay attention to detail as the work is sensitive to error
  • The ability to perform highly repetitive simple procedures
  • Ability to work flexible hours
    • Hours of work may be outside normal working hours (afternoon shift), and or on weekends
    • Hours of work will vary depending on staff availability and demands of the project

Priority will be given to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and the Procedures manual.
