The Manager of the Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation (CCCCA) will provide strategic and operational leadership for the facility in St. Peter's Bay. This position serves as a critical bridge between climate research, public policy, community engagement, and institutional development.  The Manager will coordinate the day-to-day operational aspects and the strategic initiatives at the Climate Centre. Through strong partnerships with governments, industry, communities, indigenous partners, and academic institutions, the Manager will foster cross-sectoral collaboration on climate-based research and activities, while helping to secure sustainable funding to grow these initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Working with the Associate Dean of the School of Climate Change and Adaptation, the Manager of the CCCCA has the following responsibilities:

  • The development, implementation, and monitoring of operational plans and long-term strategic initiatives for the Climate Centre. Foster cross-departmental and interfaculty collaboration, encouraging participatory action research and expanded work in applied climate fields throughout UPEI
  • Oversee the daily operations of the Climate Centre, including shared spaces at St. Peters Bay. Leverage these unique facilities to support and promote revenue-generating opportunities such as conferences, retreats, camps, and corporate meetings
  • Champion industry and community engagement efforts to co-develop climate-resilient solutions that are grounded in local context and informed by cutting-edge research. Build and steward collaborative relationships with governments, Indigenous communities, NGOs, private sector partners, international research institutes, and funding agencies
  • Act as the Climate Centre’s representative in climate policy forums, regional planning efforts, and sustainability initiatives, including participation in government-led and multi-stakeholder engagements
  • Help secure research and operational funding for the Climate Centre
  • Oversee a program for process improvement and facility development

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in a relevant discipline, such as Climate Change, Island Studies, Business Administration or related field; and/or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • 7+ years of progressive leadership experience in research management, strategic planning or public policy, ideally within the higher education sector
  • Excellent problem solving, conflict resolution, project management and organizational skills
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills across diverse sectors including government, academia, and community organizations
  • Proven ability to manage daily operations of multi-use facilities while strategically leveraging shared spaces to support organizational goals and generate revenue through events such as conferences, retreats, and corporate meetings
  • Track record of securing funding to enhance research activities and visibility of the Centre
  • Experience within a post-secondary institution would be considered an asset
