Budget Officer (2 Positions) - Finance Office
$69,259 to $76,788 per annum
UPEI is seeking applications from qualified individuals to provide responsive and detail‑oriented accounting and budget administration support within the Finance Office. This role works closely with department heads, faculty members, and administrative staff to support day‑to‑day budgeting activities, ensure accurate financial records and reporting, and provide guidance on financial processes and systems. The successful candidate will play a key client service role, helping budget holders navigate procedures, timelines, and reporting requirements while supporting the effective operation of the University’s budget unit.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Budget Administration, including:
- Provide day-to-day administrative support for budget activities across faculties and administrative units
- Assist with the preparation, input, and maintenance of the University’s annual operating budget
- Monitor budget transactions, verify accuracy, and follow up on discrepancies with budget holders
- Prepare routine internal and external budget reports
- Maintain accurate budget records and supporting documentation
Client Service and Budget Support, including:
- Act as a primary point of contact for faculties and administrative units on budgeting and financial process questions
- Provide clear guidance to budget holders on procedures, timelines, and proper use of the University’s financial systems
- Support clients with interpretation of budget reports and financial statements, escalating complex issues as required
- Deliver hands-on assistance and training to users of the University’s financial platform
Financial Reporting Support, including:
- Prepare and review monthly and year-end account reconciliations
- Assist with audits and information requests by gathering data and preparing supporting schedules
- Monitor deadlines and ensure timely completion of recurring financial tasks
QUALIFICATIONS:
- An undergraduate degree with at least two (2) years of related work experience and/or a combination of education and related work experience.
- An undergraduate degree in business with a concentration in accounting would be considered an asset
- Experience in budget management and financial reporting would be considered an asset
- Strong organizational skills and ability to effectively manage multiple priorities
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – verbal and written
- Excel, analytical and problem-solving skills
