The Hewitt Foundation gifts $1 million to support UPEI's Faculty of Medicine, helping to advance key priorities, including enhancing learner experiences, innovative teaching, and simulation-based education, while strengthening medical training opportunities on PEI.

The clinical exam rooms in the UPEI Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Centre were designed to feel authentic, and AVC students using the rooms for the first time were blown away by the realism.

UPEI is set to welcome twenty Island residents who will be receiving acceptance letters from Memorial University’s Faculty of Medicine as inaugural students at its new regional campus located within UPEI’s Faculty of Medicine and Interprofessional Health Education facility.

Earlier this year, the UPEI Clinical Learning and Simulation Centre (CLSC), in collaboration with the UPEI faculties of Medicine and Nursing, hosted an engaging interprofessional event to produce video content for the Sim FUNdamentals Facilitator program.

Dr. Preston Smith, dean of the UPEI Joint Medical Doctor program, has been awarded the Dr. Michael Krochak Award for Contributions to Family Medicine by the Saskatchewan College of Family Physicians. 

The University of Prince Edward Island is pleased to announce that Dr. Joseph Gordon has been appointed Professor of Comparative Medicine in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI). This position is a joint hire between the Faculty of Medicine and the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC). Dr. Gordon will teach anatomy in the medical school and conduct his research at AVC.

The University is excited to announce that the Rathlyn Foundation has donated $1 million to create entrance scholarships for every UPEI-based medical student in their first year of study. The announcement comes just as the admissions portal opens for the first cohort of students at Memorial University's regional campus at UPEI.

The Board of Directors of the Canadian College of Health Leaders presented the UPEI Faculty of Medicine's Paul Young with the prestigious Fellowship Medallion at its recent National Leadership Conference in Halifax.
