Sir James Dunn Animal Welfare Centre to host webinar series
The Sir James Dunn Animal Welfare Centre (SJDAWC) at the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), University of Prince Edward Island, is pleased to announce its 2022 Webinar Series.
The series will take place on March 15, 22, and 29 from 4–5 p.m. Atlantic Standard Time and will feature three speakers focusing on animal welfare issues within dog breeding.
The first webinar, which will take place on March 15, will feature Dr. Brenda Bonnett who is a veterinary science officer with the International Partnership for Dogs. Dr. Bonnett will explore international challenges for dog breeding and will discuss how veterinarians can navigate the complexities of health, welfare, and owner attachment.
On March 22, the second webinar will feature Dr. Candace Croney who is director for the Center of Animal Welfare Science at Purdue University. Dr. Croney will discuss ways to scientifically evaluate canine welfare in commercial breeding kennels and will answer the question as to whether high volume precludes good welfare.
The final webinar on March 29 will feature Dr. Rowena Packer who is a lecturer in companion animal behaviour and welfare sciences at the Royal Veterinary College. Dr. Parker will deliver a presentation on responsible breeding to improve canine welfare.
Registration is required for the webinar series. The cost to register is $50 per webinar or $120 for all three (HST is included but not Eventbrite fees) and is free for veterinary and animal health technology students. The webinars are designed for the veterinary community, although members of the public can choose to attend. Participating veterinarians and veterinary technicians will earn one hour of Registry of Approved Continuing Education (RACE) credit per webinar (RACE-program number: 20-864250).
