Anjali Simms and Kaleb Pearson named UPEI Panther Athletes of the Week
Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Athletes of the Week for October 9–15 are Anjali Simms (women’s hockey) and Kaleb Pearson (men’s hockey).
Anjali Simms is a first-year arts student from Delta, British Columbia. The UPEI Women’s Hockey defender locked down the Panthers’ first win of the season with a beautiful goal in overtime on Saturday, October 21, against the Mount Allison University Mounties. She also played stellar defence in the two games over the weekend.
“Anjali had a very impactful weekend for our program. She was good in all facets of the game in all three zones,” said head coach Sean Fisher. “She moved the puck with purpose, transported it when she had to, and defended hard. I am very happy to see her get her first AUS goal and get recognized with this award.”
Third-year forward Kaleb Pearson was unstoppable this weekend. The arts student from St. Marys, Ontario netted a career-high four goals and added an assist in a 10-2 win over the Dalhousie University Tigers on October 20. The next day he scored another goal in a 6-3 loss to the St. Francis Xavier University X-Men.
“Kaleb has been working very hard and is becoming a very good leader on our team. It was great to see him get rewarded this past weekend,” said head coach Forbes MacPherson.
