Atlantic Veterinary College and P3 Veterinary Partners announce a strategic partnership to advance veterinary education in Atlantic Canada
The Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is excited to announce a unique collaboration with Coastal Care Veterinary Emergency and Referral Hospital (Coastal Care) in Halifax.
Coastal Care, a part of the P3 Veterinary Partners group of hospitals, will soon open a state-of-the-art veterinary clinic in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and will offer AVC’s doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM) students another opportunity to gain valuable emergency/specialty care experience in a private practice setting, in addition to the AVC Veterinary Teaching Hospital and other veterinary-related facilities. This collaboration will greatly benefit fourth-year DVM students by expanding their education options within Atlantic Canada giving them the opportunity to learn closer to home.
“We are happy to have additional educational opportunities for AVC students in Atlantic Canada,” said Dr. John VanLeeuwen, interim dean of AVC. “Additional specialty care in the Atlantic region will also help to provide educational opportunities for the public and veterinary community.”
To deliver these valuable learning opportunities, P3 will create a learning space in the Coastal Care clinic. AVC hopes to offer continuing education opportunities to regional colleagues and the public at the Coastal Care learning centre in the future.
