UPEI hosts members of the Senate of Canada

UPEI was pleased to host members of the Senate of Canada on February 5 and 6.
On Wednesday, February 5, Honourable Brian Francis, Honourable Jane MacAdam, and Honourable Mary Robinson toured the UPEI Faculty of Medicine and Interprofessional Health Training Centre, accompanied by UPEI representatives Chancellor Diane Griffin, President and Vice-Chancellor Wendy Rodgers, and Dean Preston Smith and Associate Dean Peter MacPherson, Memorial Faculty of Medicine, PEI Regional Campus. Joining the tour were members of Senator MacAdam’s and Senator Robinson’s staff.
On Thursday, February 6, Senators MacAdam and Robinson and their staff visited the Robertson Library’s University Archives and Special Collections, accompanied by Dr. Laura Robinson, Chair of the L.M. Montgomery Institute. Juanita Rossiter, University Archivist and Special Collections Librarian, showed them items related to L.M. Montgomery in the University’s archives.
In the afternoon, they toured the UPEI Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation in St. Peter’s Bay where they learned about the educational and research programs offered at the Centre. Ross Dwyer, Manager of Research Partnerships, led the tour, accompanied by Dr. Greg Naterer, Vice-President, Academic and Research. Graduate students and staff spoke to the senators and their staff about the work they are doing in climate change, including sustainable agriculture, greenhouse gas emissions, and coastal erosion and flooding.
