AVC faculty and staff recognized at annual Ice Cream Social

The Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) kicked off the summer season with its annual Ice Cream Social, celebrating its dedicated faculty and staff.

Congratulations to this year’s Dean’s Awards of Excellence recipients: Sherri Pineau, Administrative Assistant, Pathology and Microbiology; Jaime Lynn Clarke, Supplies Technician, Materials Management; Alanna Felix-Fortin, Animal Care Attendant, AVC Teaching Hospital, and Jennifer Knight, Research Technician, Biomedical Sciences They were all nominated by their peers and honoured for their dedication, leadership, and commitment to education, research, and animal care at AVC.

“We are so lucky to have such a passionate and hard-working team at our college,” said Dr. Dominique Griffon, dean of the AVC. “Our award recipients go above and beyond every day to support our mission, and we’re pleased to be able to recognize them for their efforts.”

This year’s event also included heartfelt tributes to AVC retirees: Melita MacDougall, Dean’s Office; Karen Roche, Pathology and Microbiology; Theresa Andrews, Health Management; Jan Giles and Ellen McMahon, Ulrike Hagmeler, Diagnostic Services; and Professor Emeritus Dr. Larry Hammell, Health Management. Dr. Hammell was honoured with a tribute to his legacy by his friend and colleague Dr. Greg Keefe. These outstanding members of the AVC community will be remembered for their dedication and compassion, and their presence will be missed.

The highlight of the event was the handcrafted sundaes served up by Holman’s Ice Cream, which made the day even sweeter.
