2026 Mickey Place Memorial Basketball Tournament takes place September 25 to 27
The UPEI men’s and women’s basketball teams are set to compete at the annual Mickey Place Memorial Basketball Tournament, which will be played from Friday, September 25, to Sunday, September 27, in the UPEI Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre.
The tournament features nine teams from across Canada. The women’s pool includes McMaster University, University of Regina, Saint Mary’s University, and UPEI. The men’s pool includes Dalhousie University, University of Saskatchewan, York University, University of New Brunswick, and UPEI.
The tournament is named after the late John Thomas “Mickey” Place, a long-time friend of Panther Sport, a former UPEI Student Union employee, and a UPEI honorary degree recipient.

Day and tournament passes are available as follows:
A single day pass for either Friday, Saturday, or Sunday: $25 for adults, $12 for youth aged 5–17, and free for UPEI students upon presentation of a student ID
Tournament pass: $60 for adults, $24 for youth aged 5–17, $50 for adult season ticket holders, and $15 for children season ticket holders

In other Panther action this weekend, the UPEI women’s and men’s soccer teams will be at home against the University of New Brunswick Reds on Friday, September 25. The women’s team will play at 5:00 pm and the men’s team at 7:30 pm on the UPEI Artificial Turf Field. The UPEI Men's Hockey Panthers will host the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus at 7:00 pm for a pre-season game at MacLauchlan Arena.
Students, alumni, and other members of the UPEI community are invited to a pre-game pub event, “A UPEI Homecoming: Pub, Grub, and Stub,” at the Fox & Crow at 4:00 pm. The UPEI Women’s Rugby Panthers will host the St. Francis Xavier X-Women at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 26, at MacAdam Field, UPEI Alumni Canada Games Place.
Also on Saturday, the UPEI Women’s Hockey Panthers will host the Mount Allison University Mounties at 7:00 pm for a pre-season game at MacLauchlan Arena.
