UPEI Labour Relations
UPEI is a great university because of the people who are deeply committed to its future and upholding its mission of providing outstanding learning opportunities to students.
Together, we are building programs that encourage students to develop to their full potential in the classroom and the community. We value Academic Freedom; Accountability and Integrity; Pursuit of Excellence; Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and a Sense of Belonging; and Reconciliation.
Almost all universities across Canada have collective agreements with their faculty and staff, and negotiations are a routine part of the life cycle of these agreements. The University of Prince Edward Island has collective agreements with four different unions (six bargaining units). We are committed to negotiating collective agreements that serve the broad interests of students and the University community for the long term.
During 2026, the University of Prince Edward Island expects to be engaged in the process of negotiating new Collective Agreements with the University of Prince Edward Island Faculty Association (UPEIFA BU#1 and BU#2), CUPE 1870, CUPE 501, IBEW 1928, and PSAC 86000.
The University will make every effort to keep employees, students, and community members informed about the collective bargaining process. Please refer to these pages for updates and access to resources.
