Research ship arrives in Gulf of St. Lawrence for survey of sources of groundwater

The Maria S. Merian, one of the largest and most advanced research ships in the world, recently arrived in the Gulf of St. Lawrence for a survey of potential sources of undersea groundwater for Prince Edward Island. The survey, titled Offshore Groundwater Resources in a Changing Marine Environment: Continental Shelf Surrounding PEI – SOURCE, is a project of the Ocean Frontier Institute, led by Dalhousie University’s Dr.

Dr. Trevor Jain awarded the 2021 John McCrae Memorial Medal

Dr. Trevor Jain has been awarded the 2021 John McCrae Memorial Medal, which recognizes current or former clinical health services personnel of the Canadian Armed Forces for exemplary service. Dr. Jain has had a distinguished career in emergency and disaster medicine in and out of the Canadian Armed Forces. He is the director of UPEI’s BSc in Paramedicine program.

Join us for three days of activities during the first Concussion Awareness Week, September 27 to 29. Concussion Awareness week is organized by the UPEI Concussion Awareness Program (CAP), in collaboration with the PEI Department of Health and Wellness.

Concussion Awareness Week was established in January 2021 to increase concussion awareness by providing information and encouraging action across Canada. Concussion Awareness Week is for everyone with a role in healthy, active living: sport and recreation participants, parents, coaches, organizers, educators, and more.

Complete a survey today on the well-being and quality-of-life of Islanders

The Institute of Island Studies (IIS) at UPEI is embarking on a four-year project to better understand and assess the well-being and quality-of-life of Islanders. As one of the first initiatives of the project, the IIS is launching an online survey which explores personal well-being and offers the opportunity to share thoughts on how Island communities could be better places to live, work and play. The survey period continues until October 15.

UPEI announces the Panther Subway Athletes of the Week, September 13 to 19

Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and dedication to their respective sports. Paige Chisholm and Nathan Chow are the UPEI Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for September 13 to 19.

Paige Chisholm is member of the UPEI Cross Country team and a fifth-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine student at the Atlantic Veterinary College. The Port Williams, Nova Scotia native finished second in the 6 km race at the St. Francis Xavier University Invitational.
