The Office of Student Culture and Community Standards invites all members of the UPEI community to participate in Welcome Week 2026, September 4 to 13. It will once again be open to all Panthers—new and current students from across all programs, faculty and staff, family, alumni, and friends. The Welcome Week Team has partnered with various departments on campus to bring back some favourites and introduce some new activities. 

The University of Prince Edward Island is now accepting nominations for the 2026 Founders. Founders are members of the campus community—most often retired faculty and staff—who have contributed to UPEI’s mission in an exceptional way. Recognizing our Founders is an opportunity to celebrate our rich heritage and traditions, honouring those who have worked diligently and passionately to build the University into the highly regarded institution of higher education it is today.

Researchers at the University of Prince Edward Island have been awarded over $1.5 million in federal funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).

The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions, announced $630 million in NSERC funding on July 7, and more than $289 million in SSHRC awards on July 21.

Pride is recognized on PEI and at UPEI in July as part of the national summer-long “Pride season.” The PEI Pride Festival takes place this year July 24–August 2. The University of Prince Edward Island’s Faculty of Medicine is inviting Islanders to help shape the future of medical education on Prince Edward Island through a province-wide engagement initiative that will inform both the Faculty’s first strategic plan and the development of a future independent “Made by PEI for PEI” medical doctor program.

The University of Prince Edward Island was filled with excitement and celebration this past week as more than 1,300 members of the Class of 2026 crossed the stage to receive their undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Four outstanding leaders will be conferred with honorary Doctor of Laws degrees, and four graduates will deliver valedictory addresses during four Convocation ceremonies at the University of Prince Edward Island, May 12–15. Each ceremony will begin at 10:00 am in the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre on the UPEI campus. Over 1,300 students comprise the Class of 2026.
