UPEI increases support for graduate students through new fellowship program

UPEI’s Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) is establishing a new fellowship program for incoming and existing graduate students in research thesis-based graduate programs.

“Competitive financial support is an important factor in the recruitment and retention of graduate students at UPEI,” said Dr. Greg Naterer, vice-president, academic and research. “Graduate assistantships and supervisor grant/contract funding provide a common form of graduate student support. In addition, graduate fellowships have a significant role.”

Rathlyn Foundation donates $1M for entrance scholarships to UPEI-based medical students

Beginning in the fall of 2025, the Rathlyn Foundation Entrance Scholarships for UPEI Medical Students will be granted to every UPEI-based medical student in their first year of study. These $2,000 individual scholarships will be funded in perpetuity by an overall gift of $1,000,000 from the Rathlyn Foundation.

UPEI psychology students partner with junior and high school students on projects devoted to peace

Dr. Stacey MacKinnon, associate professor of psychology at UPEI, hosted a celebration for 16 senior undergraduate students taking a special topics psychology of good and evil course, and international junior and senior high school students from the NewGate School’s Global Campus, the lab school for the Montessori Foundation, on Sunday, June 4, at the UPEI Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation (CCCCA) in St. Peter’s Bay.

UPEI Convocation 2024 brings a sense of accomplishment and several firsts

The excitement and pride were palpable at the University of Prince Edward Island this past week when the Class of 2024 graduated with their undergraduate and graduate degrees.

The Convocation ceremonies took place in the UPEI Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre on May 14 for graduates of the faculties of Veterinary Medicine and Nursing; May 15 for the faculties of Business and Sustainable Design Engineering; May 16 for the faculties of Arts, Education, and Graduate Studies; and May 17 for the Faculty of Science.

UPEI’s Dr. Libby Osgood named a 3M National Teaching Fellow

Dr. Libby (Elizabeth) Osgood, associate professor in the Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering (FSDE), has been named a 2024 3M National Teaching Fellow by the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE) and 3M Canada.

“This is incredible news! I'm so proud of Libby and her accomplishments,” said Dr. Wayne Peters, interim dean of FSDE. “I'm thrilled that she brings this level of quality, dedication, and passion to our program and its students.”
