UPEI Engineering Brigades Club design water system for rural community in Honduras
In February 2024, the UPEI Engineering Brigades Club traveled to Honduras where they designed a water system for the rural community of La Brea.
The 22-member student team worked alongside Honduran engineers and the Global Brigades staff on the project. This trip marked the second-ever successful UPEI Global Engineering Brigade service trip. They were accompanied by Dr. Libby Osgood, associate professor, Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering, and Sherilyn Acorn, manager, UPEI Office of Study Abroad and International Partnerships.
PEI native Dr. Suzanne Kresta appointed Dean of UPEI Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering
Dr. Suzanne Kresta, a native of PEI, has been appointed as the Dean of the Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering (FSDE) at the University of Prince Edward Island for a five-year term, effective September 1, 2024.
Dr. Kresta is a professor of chemical engineering and recently completed a term as the Dean of Engineering (2018–2023) at the University of Saskatchewan. Previously, she was the Associate Dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research, at the University of Alberta.
MacLauchlan Panther Pitch live competition is April 10 at UPEI
On Wednesday, April 10, six UPEI business student teams will pitch their start-up businesses for a share of $62,000 in prize money during the MacLauchlan Panther Pitch Competition. The event, which is open to the public, will take place from 4:00 to 8:30 pm in Don and Marion McDougall Hall, Room 242.
AVC hosts retirement party for beagles
The Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) recently bid farewell to seven of its most beloved staff members in a heartwarming retirement party.
These distinguished retirees weren't your typical colleagues. They were seven adorable beagles that played an integral role in training future veterinarians at AVC.
Orientation for New Faculty, Librarians, Clinical Nursing Instructors, and Clinical Veterinary Professionals
This university-level orientation is meant for all newly hired faculty of all ranks and tracks and complements orientation programming offered by your unit and Human Resources. Our event will take place over three afternoons--August 19, 20, and 21--and will introduce you to several senior administrators, colleagues from a variety of teaching, research and support units as well as the UPEIFA, our faculty union.
MacLauchlan Panther Pitch
This year’s MacLauchlan Panther Pitch will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. The live pitching event will take place from 4:00 to 6:15 pm in the Alex H. MacKinnon Auditorium, Don and Marion McDougall Hall, Room 242. The Panther Pitch finalists will pitch their ideas to the judges and live audience. Following the live pitching event, there will be an awards ceremony and reception from 6:15 to 8:30 pm in Schurman Market Square. All award winners will be announced during this time.
Emily Duffy, Kaleb Pearson, and Kamari Scott named UPEI Athletes of the Year
UPEI’s Department of Athletics and Recreation celebrated the 2023–24 season at the annual UPEI Panther Celebration—Athletic Awards Gala on Friday, April 5, recognizing outstanding student-athletes who have excelled in sport, the classroom, and the community.
This year, the UPEI Alumni Association’s Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year award went to Emily Duffy, UPEI Women’s Rugby. The Male Athlete of the Year co-winners are Kaleb Pearson, UPEI Men’s Hockey and Kamari Scott, UPEI Men’s Basketball.
Young Canada Works Information Session: Building a Career in Heritage

Join Young Canada Works (YCW) for an information session on Wednesday, April 24, at 5 pm ADT to learn how they can help you find short-term work experiences in Canadian museums and arts organizations. YCW is a federally funded program that helps create work opportunities for Canadian youth aged 30 and under in the heritage sector throughout the year.
Yukon author Joanna Lilley will give reading at UPEI on April 16
Yukon poet and fiction writer Joanna Lilley will give a public reading as part of an Atlantic Canada tour in the Faculty Lounge, SDU Main Building, UPEI on Tuesday, April 16, at 7:00 pm.
Born in the south of England, Lilley lived in Wales and Scotland before moving to Whitehorse, Yukon. Before migrating, she earned an MLitt degree in creative writing from the Universities of Glasgow and Strathclyde.
UPEI grants title of Chancellor Emeritus to Honourable Catherine Callbeck
The Honourable Catherine Callbeck, former Chancellor of the University of Prince Edward Island, has been named Chancellor Emerita in recognition of her outstanding service to the University from 2018 to 2023.
The UPEI Board of Governors made the decision to grant the title to her at a meeting held on April 2, 2024. The UPEI Senate had previously endorsed the honour at their meeting on March 15, 2024. She will officially be granted the title during Convocation this May.
