Overview

Everyone thinks, learns, communicates, and works differently. Workplaces that recognize and support these differences can create stronger teams, improve collaboration, and provide better experiences for employees.

Beyond Awareness: Strategies for Neurodiverse Workplace Success is a free online course series designed to help employees, supervisors, managers, and organizations better understand neurodiversity and build more accessible workplaces.

Developed by the University of Prince Edward Island’s Office of Continuing Education and Professional Development (OCEPD), this training provides practical strategies that help organizations move beyond awareness and take action.

Participants will learn how to reduce workplace barriers, strengthen communication, support neurodivergent employees, and create environments where different strengths and ways of working are valued.

Designed for workplaces across all sectors and industries, this training supports employees, teams, and organizations in Canada and around the world.

Originally developed with funding support from Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) through the Accessible Canada Fund, Beyond Awareness was created to provide free, accessible, high-quality neuro-inclusiveness training.

What You Will Learn

The program includes three online micro-courses:

Course 1: Understanding Neurodiversity in the Workplace
Learn what neurodiversity means, how people may experience workplaces differently, and how workplaces can support different strengths.

Course 2: Creating Neuroinclusive Workplaces
Explore practical strategies that support accessibility, communication, inclusion, and everyday workplace practices.

Course 3: Neuroinclusive Hiring and Team Development
Learn how inclusive recruitment, hiring, and team practices can help organizations reduce barriers and build stronger teams.

Complete one course or complete all three.

Participants receive a Certificate of Completion for each course completed. Participants who complete all three courses receive a certificate for the full program.

Each year during National AccessAbility Week (NAAW), UPEI hosts a free speaker series focused on accessibility, inclusion, and workplace success.
