Campus Notices
Dear members of the UPEI community,
I write to you to ask your help. Our AVC students will host the 2013
Student Canadian Veterinary Medical Association Symposium.
This symposium is held each year at one of the five veterinary
schools in Canada. The event is taking place here from January 10-12, with
students arriving in PEI as early as January 9 and departing by January 13.
This is a wonderful event filled with lectures, labs, tours, and some
social events. The event is being run on a “student budget,” and every
measure is being taken to lower the costs. This is where we need your help.
We are asking that you consider being a host to one or more of these
students. A host needs only to provide a place to sleep, bathroom
facilities (no meals are needed), and if possible, transportation to campus
in the mornings. Included is a link to “sign up” to be a host. This is a
great opportunity for us to showcase our beautiful campus and our Island,
to show our support for our veterinary students, and at the same time do
something special and memorable for a future member of the veterinary
profession. Thanks in advance for your consideration of this request. Your
generosity is greatly appreciated.

The next UPEI blood donor clinic will be at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre
on January 17, 11 am-3 pm.
This is an important clinic because of the decline in donors during the
'flu and cold" season. Your attendance is really needed.
Appointments are recommended and may be made by calling 1-888-236-6283.
Walk-ins are most welcome.
For an educational and entertaining video clip about donating blood, go to

Atlantic Veterinary College is now accepting applications for its national award-winning Dr. Tim Ogilvie AVC Vet Camp and the AVC Summer Academy.
AVC Vet Camp offers an educational adventure like no other! Students (grades 7-9 and grades 10-12) learn about anatomy, wildlife medicine, and animal behaviour. They get to visit our large- and small-animal hospitals, including our intensive care unit, and take a field trip. They also learn about keeping pets and farm animals healthy. Students will also take part in lively discussions on animal-related social and public-health issues that face veterinarians today, and learn all about the educational requirements to become a veterinarian. Please visit upei.ca/avc/vetcamp - http://avc.upei.ca/vetcamp - for more information.
AVC's Summer Academy is a five-day residential program during which university students interact with the College's faculty, staff, and students through a variety of instructional approaches including classroom lectures, field trips, rotations, and hands-on sessions, all of which serve to expose students to the profession of veterinary medicine. The Academy is a valuable experience for those interested in pursuing a career in veterinary medicine. More information on the Academy can be found at upei.ca/avc/summeracademy - http://avc.upei.ca/summeracademy .
