The International Symposium of Critical Studies of Artificial Intelligence and Education will be a one-day online symposium taking place on February 2, 2024, supported by the International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence under the auspices of UNESCO.
The call for proposals is open for the Active Learning Network's Global Festival of Active Learning until January 26. The theme for this year is "Back to the future–looking ahead for active learning." The festival, which is online and free to attend, will take place from March 11 to 15, 2024, with two one-hour slots each day.
A variety of small group training options and specialty fitness classes (barre fitness, kettlebell, yoga) will start soon. UPEI staff and faculty have discounted rates. What rate do you pay? Click on fitness programming and check out the small group training options and specialty fitness classes.
New: Download the Panther Recreation app and log in with your UPEI email and password. With the app, you'll be able to register for fitness programs, click on operating hours, see varsity schedules, buy varsity tickets online, and more.
The Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) is now accepting applications for the Dr. Tim Ogilvie AVC Vet Camps, taking place in July/August 2024.
Designed for students entering grades 7-9 or 10-12, each of the four week-long camps will provide campers with a behind-the-scenes look at the world of veterinary medicine. Campers will learn about caring for animals, go on field trips, and take part in fun and educational activities.

The Scholarships and Awards Office is accepting applications for the second semester (winter) award cycle.
Students can now access the Scholarship and Award Application portal by clicking the link provided here or in the UPEI Forms section of their MyUPEI account. Students are encouraged to review the four-step instructions and submit their electronic application through the portal by the February 1, 2024, deadline to be considered. Additional awards with a separate application process are conveniently listed below the portal link on the 2nd Semester (Winter) Award Cycle webpage. Deadlines for the separate application awards vary across January and February. Be sure to click the links, review the criteria, and submit in time for the deadline.

The fourth meeting of the UPEI Senate will take place on January 19, 2024, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm in Alumni Hall (Room 102), 618 University Avenue. Please note that this is a change in the venue included in the campus notice published on January 17.
All meetings of Senate are open to members of the University community, although for certain in-camera items (e.g., granting of degrees), only senators may be present. While Senate is an in-person meeting, to facilitate inclusion, under special circumstances members of the University community may request a Zoom connection by emailing senate@upei.ca when they are unable to attend in person. Only members of Senate are permitted to address the Senate unless otherwise recognized by the Chair.
The Atlantic Policy Congress of First Nations Chiefs (APC) via the Atlantic Indigenous Economic Development Integrated Research Program (AIEDIRP) invites you to attend a presentation on their latest study: Innovative Governance Structures to Support Indigenous Economic Growth
The study’s purpose is to identify innovative governance structures to support Indigenous economic growth and development, and how these can be optimized for the benefit of communities, using Nation-building approaches. After the presentation, there will be opportunities for questions and comments.

We are looking for volunteer mentors to join the Study & Stay PEI 2024 mentorship program. Volunteer mentors are working professionals who share their knowledge and experience in networking, relationship building, and the labour market in PEI, and help mentees identify strengths and areas for improvement.
The mentors are required to meet with their assigned mentee a minimum of four times between January and June 2024. The meetings can be in-person, online, or by phone.

The Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), University of Prince Edward Island, is now accepting nominations for the Atlantic Award of Excellence in Veterinary Medicine and Animal Care.
Established in 2005, this annual award recognizes veterinarians who have made significant contributions to animal health and welfare in Atlantic Canada. The award will be presented at the 2024 Atlantic Provinces Veterinary Conference, which will be held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, from April 19–21.
Anyone may submit a nomination. Nominees must be practicing or retired veterinarians in the Atlantic provinces to be considered for this award. Nominees do not have to be affiliated with the AVC. Completed nominations must be received by February 19, 2024, at 11:45 pm.

A 45-minute drop-in session where we will look at some basic slide design principles and then spend time redesigning one of your own slide decks.
What to bring: A set of slides and a device to work on

Looking to get out of the cold and go for a walk/run inside? UPEI staff and faculty have free access to the indoor track at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre. To register weekly, log in at recreation.upei.ca or through the new Panther Recreation app with your UPEI email address and password. Click on the wellness icon and then on walking track access. Participants must register to gain access. For all staff and faculty who have already completed this step, you do not have to do it again. Access to the track will expire on October 3, 2024. Please contact Angela Marchbank, Fitness and Wellness Coordinator, for assistance and/or questions. Access to the track is provided through the Healthy Campus Committee.
