UPEI students with an average of at least 80% in their last two years of undergraduate study in any discipline are automatically eligible for the MBA program, with no GMAT/GRE requirement.

In recognition of the outstanding performance and dedication of our faculty and staff, a number of annual awards have been created to acknowledge their efforts and achievements. 

Up to 10 Presidential Awards of Merit for UPEI Faculty, Librarians, Clinical Veterinary Professionals and Clinical Nursing Instructors and four categories of Presidential Awards of Merit for UPEI Staff will be awarded in 2019. These awards will be presented during a Celebration of Colleagues to be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 from 10:30am-12:00pm in McMillan Hall, W.A. Murphy Student Centre. 

Susan Connolly, Associate Vice-President, Human Resources & Legal, will lead the process and chair the committee to select award recipients. 

Nominations for both faculty and staff awards close on Friday, March 29, 2019.

Join us Wednesday, March 13th for this year's Career and Summer Job Fair!

This event is free to attend for all post-secondary Students, and offers a great opportunity to meet with employers and recruiters to start networking, find a summer job, or kick start a career. Be prepared to present yourself professionally.

The event will take place in MacMillan Hall in the W.A. Murphy Student Centre, and will run from 10:30am until 3:00pm with a storm date on Thursday, March 14th.

This year's fair will be co-hosted by UPEI Career Services and the Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering and will feature employers from various industries across PEI and the Maritimes.

As part of 'Pharmacy Awareness Week', the PEI Pharmacist Association is hosting a 1-hour information session on Wednesday, March 6 starting at 11:30 in the Health Sciences Building, room 105.

This session will provide information about pharmacy programs, in an effort to not only guide those contemplating pharmacy as a career, but to further inform students about what 'goes in to' becoming a pharmacist so that the expanded role of pharmacists is better understood.

There will also be a hands-on Naloxone-administration demo, which will be of interest to students in leadership/supervisory roles.

March 8th is International Women's Day - a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. 

In celebration of International Women’s Day, WUSC UPEI Local Committee, the Rotaract Club of UPEI, and Robertson Library will be showing the documentary To Educate A Girl: Empowering Women and Girls in the Developing World, by filmmakers Frederick Rendina and Oren Rudavsky.

“What does it take to educate a girl? Framed by the United Nations global initiative to provide equal access to education for girls by 2015, TO EDUCATE A GIRL takes a ground-up and visually stunning view of that effort through the eyes of girls out of school, starting school or fighting against the odds to stay in school.” Kanopy

The purpose of the film will be to raise money for the Shine A Light Program, an initiative that provides women and girls within refugee camps the opportunity to better their educational prospects.

Admission is free, but there will be donations accepted at the door. Any amount can make a difference in someone's life.

The School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences welcomes the campus community to a public research presentation by Dr. Faiza Khan Khattak, candidate for tenure track position in Data Analytics, on Monday, March 4th at 3:00 pm at Cass Science Hall, Room 101. 

Presentation Title: Automatic extraction of information from patient-clinician dialogues

Abstract: AutoScribe is a system for automatically extracting pertinent medical information from dialogues between clinicians and patients. The system parses the dialogue and extracts entities such as medications and symptoms, using context to predict which entities are relevant. It also classifies the primary diagnosis for each conversation. A novelty of this work is that, unlike most of the existing systems which primarily use lexicon-based term matching, AutoScribe uses linguistic context and time information to extract entities and also determines which entities are relevant.

The UPEI Faculty of Arts, Asian Studies Programme, and Korean Studies Project are pleased to announce the following special lecture by a prominent international scholar, our 2019 annual speaker: 

Professor Charles K. Armstrong, Department of History, Columbia University, NYC, will give a special lecture entitled “North Korea and the Prospects for Peace” on March 25 (Monday) from 1:30 to 2:45 pm in the Faculty Lounge (room 201), SDU Main building. We will begin at 1:00 with reception and healthy refreshments. (Storm-day backup: Tuesday, March 26, 2:30-3:45 pm).

This is a wonderful opportunity to understand or discuss “the latest development in US-Korean relations especially after the 2nd Trump-Kim summit in Vietnam, as well as the history of conflict on the Korean peninsula and the prospects for peace between North and South Korea under the leadership of Kim Jong Un and Moon Jae-in.”

Dr. Charles K. Armstrong is The Korea Foundation Professor of Korean Studies in the Social Sciences in the Department of History at Columbia University, NYC. He is the author, editor or co-editor of five books, including Tyranny of the Weak: North Korea and the World, 1950–1992 (Cornell University Press, 2013); The Koreas (Routledge, 2014); Korea at the Center: Dynamics of Regionalism in Northeast Asia (M.E. Sharpe, 2006); Korean Society: Civil Society, Democracy and the State (Routledge, 2006); and The North Korean Revolution, 1945–1950 (Cornell…, 2003). His current publication projects include a history of modern East Asia (forthcoming) and American cultural policy in East Asia during the Cold War. He holds a BA in Chinese Studies from Yale University, an MA in International Relations from the London School of Economics, and a PhD in History from the University of Chicago.
