The UPEI Mental Health Week organizers invite staff and faculty to participate in our wrap-up session, "Let's Listen" on Friday, March 11 at 3:00 pm. Five to six students, staff, and faculty will share their personal journey and/or supportive experiences with mental health in a friendly, safe, and informal environment. We've already had a few students step up to participate, and we are now looking for a few staff and faculty to do so as well. If you would like to share your story, relating it to our theme "Relationships Matter", we would love to hear from you. Please send a short paragraph of what you would like to speak about to Anne Bartlett, ambartlett@upei.ca, by 5:00 pm on Thursday, February 25. Please help us eliminate the stigma around mental health while promoting a healthy and supportive UPEI community.

PEI Energy Systems needs to replace the domestic hot water exchanger for the original portion of the Atlantic Veterinary College. This will require a shutdown of domestic hot water for the original portino of the AVC facility for approximately 2 hours. They will be doing this work on Monday, February 29, 2016 beginning at 12:00pm.

Online tax slips are now available, through Campus LogIn, to current and former employees who elected to receive their T4 electronically prior to Tuesday, February 16, 2016.
Employees who did not provide consent will have their 2015 T4s mailed to them within the next week. The “Electronic T4 Consent” option is now standard via Campus LogIn and we strongly encourage everyone to sign-up now for future years.
For employees who file their taxes electronically, printing the slip is optional. You will be able to read the values for each of the tax slip boxes online as you are completing your income tax return. You will always have access to slips under Campus LogIn should you need them now or in the future.
We will also be mailing T4As for 2015 within the next week.
Also, please note that Payroll will not be processing requests for duplicate copies until March 1/16.

A first of its kind ‘foodie’ event is taking place in Charlottetown. UPEI's Dr. Bill Whelan and wife Michelle Cottreau are hosting a roving feast with a twist. Under the guidance of Chef Andrew Nicholson, culinary students have been given the challenge to create unique and tasty dishes from a list of cancer fighting foods such as cabbage, chocolate and onions. Guests will dine on their choice of any or all of the 18 small plates prepared by the culinary students all while mingling with UPEI students and faculty who will explain the science behind the cancer fighting foods. The evening will also include a silent auction and green tea tasting.
What inspired this innovative event? The desire of Canadian Cancer Society Dream Team member and UPEI cancer researcher, Dr. Whelan, to see fewer people diagnosed with cancer. Today, 2 in 5 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer and of those, 1 in 4 will die from it. Thanks to research, the number of people surviving a cancer diagnosis has improved from 26% in 1940 to 63% today, yet cancer is now the leading cause of premature death in PEI, taking more Islanders each year than heart disease, stroke and diabetes combined.
Tickets for the event are $75 per guest. Charitable donation receipts of $30 ticket will be issued. These proceeds will go to the fight against cancer through the work of the PEI Division of the Canadian Cancer Society.

The University 100 Vern Smitheram and Andy Robb Leadership Development Series is an opportunity to engage students and the community in important conversations about the theory and practice of leadership.
The campus community is invited to participate in a workshop on Universal Design for Learning (UDL), hosted by the Department of Student Affairs and delivered by Megan MacKenzie, Frédéric Fovet, and Cathy Rose. Universal Design for Learning is a framework to optimize teaching and learning by considering the “why”, “what”, and “how” of learning. As our Accessibility services are nearing capacity and an increasing number of students are using these services, the UDL framework can be used in higher education to address the very pressing need of delivering sustainable, inclusive instruction.
In this workshop, we will explore the UDL framework, discuss how faculty and staff can use UDL to better meet the learning needs of their students, and share some real, simple examples of how UDL principles can be implemented.
The workshop will happen on Thursday, March 3 from 1-3pm in the Main Faculty Lounge. Refreshments will be served.

UPEI is in the process of transitioning Corporate Credit Cards to Scotiabank, and some cardholders have already received their new Scotiabank cards.
To assist in this process, there will be a second training session hosted by Matt Adams on Feb 24 at 10:00am in Don and Marion McDougall Hall (Room 329) to demonstrate how to view and reconcile transactions using Scotiabank's CentreSuite program, and provide some additional information. Please feel free to attend as a cardholder or have a designate attend who is responsible for monthly reconciliation activities.
If you would like to receive training and are unable to attend the session, training can be provided on an individual basis.
