Calling all singers! The UPEI Multicultural Choir and Song Circle will be meeting this Tuesday, November 8, from 4:30 to 5:30pm in the Robertson Library Building, in the basement, room 103. This area is also accessible by an elevator, if needed (call Hailey – see below).
The multicultural choir is in its 6th year, and is a non-audition, open, free and fun activity which brings people from campus and the community together, sharing songs from cultures all around the world!

An email was sent out from the UPEI WHMIS program this week in error. This email advised users that they were due to complete WHMIS supervisor training. The vast majority of folks receiving this email are required or due to take this training.
If you received this email, please disregard it. Also, please pass this information along to your students as this email targeted all users of WHMIS.

UPEI 103 students and University 303 students will be taking on a co-curricular project. It will be held on Tuesday, November 8 and Wednesday, November 9, 10:00-1:00 pm in W.A. Murphy Student Centre. The students are setting up a "Swap for Supplies" yard-sale event to support second-year engineering students who are travelling to Mikinduri, Kenya in February to help support communities alongside the "Children of Hope" organization. Supplies needed include: pens, pencils, flashlights, band-aids, sealed pain medication (Tylenol, Aspirin, etc), and toothbrushes. Clothing donations will also be accepted. Individuals who bring in supplies will have the opportunity to swap their supplies for various gently-used items including books, clothing, decorations, etc. Don't have these supplies? Monetary donations are also greatly appreciated. There will also be a raffle to win some UPEI goodies!

Dalhousie University Faculty of Medicine will be on the UPEI campus to deliver information about the admission requirements and the application process to their medical school. Any student who has ever considered a career in medicine should attend and learn more about what is required in the application process. Students from all faculties and year levels are encouraged to attend.
This is a reminder that the UPEI Biosafety Policy requires that all Principal Investigators confirm the security and complete inventory of all biohazardous materials being used or stored, due in November of each year. This is accomplished by updating your entries, then confirming this action, as follows:
Access your inventory at http://biosafety.vre3.upei.ca/
Ensure your inventory is up to date, and then confirm this by following the steps as listed below.
1. Select User Menu (Top right of screen) then My account from the left side of the drop down screen.
2. Click Edit (just below the user name)
3. Click on Information, on the top right section of the screen.
4. Scroll down this page. Below the box with the phone number, you will notice a box next to I accept. If you have not already done so, please read this section and, if you agree, please check this box.
5. To report your inventory is up to date, please enter the date that you confirm this in the 2016 box.
6. 6. Hit Save! Task completed.

An honours project at the University of Prince Edward Island is being performed on the effects of eccentric and concentric leg press exercises on dietary intake, delayed onset muscle soreness, muscle swelling, and physical activity.
Participants are asked to visit the UPEI Fitness Centre 4 times. The first will be gathering baseline data, while the second, third and fourth will involve workouts on a leg press, or a rest day. You will be asked to track your diet for 72 hours, as well as appetite and soreness after each visit. You will also be asked to wear a pedometer for 72 hours after each trial. It is expected each session will last roughly 1 hour.
This research project has received approval from the UPEI Research Ethics Board. Dr. Michelle Evason, a candidate for the open, tenure-track small animal internal medicine position in the Department of Companion Animals, will be interviewing on Wednesday, November 2 & Thursday, November 3, 2016. Cost for the vaccination is $10. Valid provincial health card information will be required when scheduling and your health card must be provided at the appointment.

There will be a range of health professionals available to meet and talk with students about their specific health-based career.
