To celebrate International Development Week, the Wanda Wyatt Dining Hall will be serving an international lunch entrée February 2-6. The menu will be as follows:

Thursday – Chinese Clay Pot Rice *Recipe submitted by a student

There will also be a special Buy One Get One (BOGO) offer on throughout the week. Coupons are posted on the Chartwells website and can be redeemed by showing it on a mobile device upon entry. All student recipes will be available in the next issue of the Campus Connector!
The 2015 theme of this year’s IDW week is “We Make a Difference.” Join the campus community in learning about how UPEI students, staff, and faculty make a difference through their work and studies, and how you can make a difference abroad or in your community.
The Atlantic Council for International Cooperation will host the fourth presentation in the Brown Bag Lunch Series, on Thursday, February 5 at 12:00 pm in The Wave, W.A. Murphy Student Centre. The presentation is titled "Opportunities to be a Global Village," and will explore the role of international development and international development organizations within Canadian contexts and how students can become involved locally.
The Canadian Red Cross will host the final presentation titled "Restoring Family Links" in the Brown Bag Lunch Series on Friday, February 6 at 11:30 am in the Faculty Lounge, SDU Main Building. The Canadian Red Cross Restoring Family Links program helps people in Canada re-establish contact with immediate family members after separation due to armed conflict, natural disaster, migration and other humanitarian crises.

Dr. Timothy Goddard, will present this year’s keynote presentation entitled “The quest for Buen Vivir: For whom are we making a difference, and why?” which will reflect on the idea of international development and examine some of the ways in which local communities can assume agency for their own future.

The campus community is invited to a presentation entitled “In the Eye of the Storm: Pipelines and the National Energy Board” presented by the Chair and CEO of the National Energy Board (NEB) of Canada, Peter Watson. The NEB is currently on a country-wide tour called the “National Energy Board (NEB) National Engagement Initiative.” Mr. Watson will be visiting campus to engage with Canadians and to promote the Board’s role and responsibilities. The presentation will take place on Tuesday, February 3 at 2:30 pm, in room 117, SDU Main Building. All are welcome to attend.
Dr. Johanna Wolf, Associate Professor for the School of Environment and Sustainability at Royal Roads University, British Columbia, is a candidate for UPEI's new Canada Research Chair in Sustainability, Resilience, and Island Contexts. Dr. Wolf will make two presentations, both of which will be open to the campus and research communities.
A general presentation, entitled “Better off or Worse for Wear: Sustainability and Resilience Through Climate Adaptation," will take place on February 9, 10:30–11:30 am in AVC Lecture Theatre A. A technical presentation, entitled “Connect, Collaborate, Co-produce: Shaping Climate Change Adaptation to Foster Island Resilience and Sustainability," will take place on February 10, 2:00–3:00 pm, in AVC Lecture Theatre A. A reception will follow each presentation in the McCain Foundation Learning Commons at AVC. All are welcome to attend.

UPEI Athletics and Recreation will host the eighth annual Shoot for the Cure fundraiser on Friday, February 6 with a series of activities leading up to, and during, the UPEI women’s basketball game starting at 6:00 pm versus the Acadia Axewomen.
Shoot for the Cure is a fundraising initiative by the CIS Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) to raise money for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) and other related charities.
The campaign goal is $6,000. Staff and faculty can support the women’s basketball team by purchasing a Shoot for the Cure t-shirt ($12) at Panther Central or the UPEI Bookstore, a paper icon ($1) from Panther Central, or through the “Gofund” donation page at: http://www.gofundme.com/k3xv14.
Fundraising efforts at the women’s basketball game include a bake sale, 50/50, and “chuck a puck.”

Dr. Megan MacLellan will interview for the open, tenure-track faculty position in radiology & diagnostic imaging in the Department of Companion Animals at the Atlantic Veterinary College. Dr. MacLellan graduated from AVC in 2011; completed an internship at Tufts Veterinary Emergency & Treatment Specialists and is now completing a Medical Imaging Residency program at the University of Minnesota.
As part of the interview process, Dr. MacLellan has been asked to present a 50-minute lecture suitable for 3rd year DVM students on Friday, January 30 at 12:30 pm in AVC, Lecture Theatre A. The title of her presentation is: “Equine Imaging: Common Diseases.” Any interested faculty and staff are invited to attend. A copy of her CV and letter of application will be available from Laurel Fisher (fisher@upei.ca) in the Department of Companion Animals.
Alyssa Grunwald, Department of Biomedical Sciences will present a seminar called "Discovery of tetramic acid containing compounds from two Tolypocladium sp. isolated from Frobisher Bay" on Tuesday, February 3 at 3:30 pm in AVC Lecture Theatre C. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Ian Gardner, the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Aquatic Epidemiology, and his team have launched a new website showcasing the projects they have been working on over the past three years, as well as future endeavours.

Have you signed up to receive your electronic T4 slip? If you completed the consent form for the 2013 tax year, you will automatically receive your 2014 tax slip electronically. There is no need to complete the consent form again. New consents must be received no later than January 30, 2015.
Online tax slips will be available, through Campus Login, to current and former employees, who received taxable earnings or benefits in 2014. Online T4s are official tax slips accepted by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). However, CRA requires employees to give their consent in order to access their tax slips electronically. Your consent will be valid for all subsequent tax years. New employees can grant consent for online T4s after they have received their first pay cheque.
Employees who do not provide consent will have their 2014 T4s mailed to the address on file no later than February 28, 2015. Electronic T4s will be available sooner than the printed versions due to a lesser processing time. The consent form can be accessed through Campus Login: https://secure.upei.ca/cls/login.html. The consent form must be completed by January 30, 2015, in order to receive your 2014 T4 slip electronically.
UPEI’s first Campus Job Fair, hosted by the Office of Skills Development and Learning, will take place Thursday, February 19, 2015 from 11:00am-2:00pm, Schurman Market Square in Don and Marion McDougall Hall. UPEI departments and faculties that offer employment opportunities for students throughout the year are invited to attend.

The UPEI Charity Club invites the campus community to the showing of Ryan’s Well, on Wednesday, February 4 from 2:00–3:30 pm in K.C. Irving Chemistry Centre, room 104, in celebration of UPEI's International Development Week. "Ryan's Well" is an inspirational story about a boy who was determined to make a difference in the lives of the people living Angolo, Uganda. Through Ryan Hreljac’s fundraising efforts, thousands of dollars was raised to build a well for the village. This documentary follows Ryan’s story from his first conversations with his Ugandan pen pal to the day he visited Angolo and saw the well for the first time.
Refreshments will be provided! All are welcome to attend.
