If your department would like to receive promo for future events held on the campus please respond with a mailing address where we can send and how many posters or pay stuffers you would like.

The next clinic is Thursday September 24th  from 11-3pm in the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre and there are currently 87 appointments left to be filled. There are several ways to schedule an appointment.

This is new for us to offer this and we have set a modest goal of adding 50 new registrants at this booth.  If you cannot donate you still may be able to join, come and check out the booth!!

We are also looking for some volunteers to assist us on campus at these events so feel free to direct anyone or any group interested in this send me an email!!

Also The UPEI Panthers Men’s Hockey team has signed up as a Partner for Life pledging 20 units of blood annually on behalf of players, family & friends.  If you would like to support them please join them as a member of their team on www.blood.ca/partnersforlife using the ID number UPEI1949081.  Once you register then any donation you give throughout the entire year will be counted toward this goal.

The Faculty of Science Grad Studies Committee invites the campus community to the following seminar presented by Dr. Stephen Heard, University of New Brunswick

Dr. Heard’s seminar is entitled:

“What Scientific Writing Is: Reflections on the History, Culture, and Practice of Composition in the Natural Sciences”

Abstract:  How do scientists write, and how do they think about writing? For many scientists, the answers are "painfully" and "we don't". Fixing the problem inherent in the first answer involves changing the second. I will discuss some aspects of the cultural and historical roots of the scientific-writing form, of the function of the written document in the hands of its readers, and of the writing behaviour of ordinary scientists. We can increase our own scientific impact, while simultaneously improving our literature, with conscious attention to what writing is.

The seminar will take place on:

Friday, August 28, 2015
Duffy Science Centre, Room 204
10:30 am

Everyone is welcome to attend.
On Friday, August 28, 2015, the Faculty of Science Graduate Studies Committee will host a Master of Science Defense.  Brittany Cole will defend her Master of Science thesis entitled:

“Adapting to Beach and Dune Environments: A Study of Fitness and Ecological Factors in the Coastal Plant Cakile Edentula ”

The seminar will be held on:

Friday, August 28, 2015
1:00 p.m.
Duffy Science Centre – Room 204

Everyone is welcome.
UPEI’s Climate Research Lab, in partnership with PEI EMO and the Marine Environmental Observation Prediction and Response Network (MEOPAR) to bring a special presentation to Prince Edward Island. Dr. Adam Sobel, author of Storm Surge will give a talk in the Lecture Theatre of the Regis and Joan Duffy Research Centre. The talk begins at 10 am Friday, August 28.

There is no cost to attend, but please RSVP to messery@gov.pe.ca.

Dr Sobel is a renowned atmospheric scientist and Columbia University Professor. His book details the devastating and unprecedented events of Hurricane Sandy, using it to explain our planet’s changing climate and what we need to do to protect ourselves and our cities for the future.

Storm Surge brings together the melting glaciers, the shifting jet streams, and the warming oceans to make clear how our changing climate will make New York and other cities more vulnerable than ever to huge storms—and how we need to think differently about these long-term risks if we hope to mitigate the damage. Engaging, informative, and timely, Sobel’s book provokes us to rethink the future of our climate and how we can better prepare for the storms to come.
