This year marks the 50th anniversary of Korea-Canada Diplomatic Relations. It's formally recognized by both governments as “the Year of Korea in Canada” and “the Year of Canada in Korea.” A special presentation by Mr. Hee-yong Cho, South Korean Ambassador to Canada will take place on Thursday, September 12, 3:30–4:20 pm, in the Faculty Lounge, Main Building. Mr. Cho will introduce the past, present, and future of Korea-Canada diplomatic relations and discuss a strategic partnership between two nations by identifying new ways to enhance South Korea’s relationships with Atlantic Canada. He will educate UPEI students, faculty, staff, and the general public about this vital topic and its international implications for educational, business, or career opportunities and benefits in PEI or South Korea.

Animal Welfare in Practice - Companion Animal Behaviour
SJDAWC and AW Club, September 13-14; lecture theatre A
The 9th annual “Animal Welfare: In Practice” conference will focus on common behaviour issues in dogs and cats, their impact on the welfare of pets, and the importance of positive interactions in the prevention and management of such problems. There will be a public talk on Friday evening (“My dog just tore down my blinds…. and other behavior issues in dogs and cats”) and clinical presentations on Saturday on treatment of behavior problems in dogs and in cats (Dr. Barbara Sherman), and pharmacology of drugs used (Dr. Sandra McConkey).

The Atlantic Veterinary College will no longer be staffed by Security Attendants, as of September 9, 2013.
Following that date, security needs at AVC will be responded to by UPEI Security Officers on a priority-dispatch basis. Security response to non-emergency requirements at AVC will be limited and departments should adjust their operating procedures accordingly. Facilities Management (Security Services Division) has been in consultation with AVC administration and departments regarding this change and will continue to work closely with them to ensure the transition is as seamless as possible.

Faculty and graduate students interested in program evaluation are welcome to attend a program evaluation workshop offered by the Canadian Evaluation Society, PEI Chapter. Keynote speakers include focus group gurus, Dr. Richard Krueger and Dr. Mary Anne Casey. UPEI's own Dr. Blake Jelley is also one of the featured presenters. We will be holding Learn to Play Squash Clinics on Saturday, September 21: Ladies 10 am - noon and Men 1-3 pm, Saturday, October 26: Ladies 10 am - noon and Men 1-3 pm. The clinic is at no cost for our members and UPEI students. If you would like to attend please visit the Panther Central desk and sign up. Pre-registration is required as we have 8 spots available per time session.
The deadline for Research Ethics Board Submission--new, renewal, or amendments--is Monday September 9 for the September 2013 meeting.
