AVC student earns national bovine health scholarship
The Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) at the University of Prince Edward Island congratulates Casey Whitehouse, a third-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) student, on receiving a 2023 Merck Animal Health Bovine Scholarship.
The scholarships were awarded at the 2023 American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP) annual conference, held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in September. Whitehouse was among the 18 winners who each received $5,000. While she was not at the conference to receive the award in person, she is humbled to receive this accolade.
AVC’s Dr. Ian Dohoo receives his Order of Canada medal after waiting four years
In the words of Dr. Ian Dohoo, professor emeritus of epidemiology at the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), “it’s better late than never.”
In 2019, Dr. Dohoo was notified that he was appointed a member to the Order of Canada. He bought a suit and picked out a tie to wear to the ceremony, but then life and a global pandemic put the celebrations on hold.
New book offers aerial view of PEI history
Dr. Joshua MacFadyen, Canada Research Chair in Geospatial Humanities, will launch a new book that offers an aerial view of PEI’s changing landscapes on November 29, 2023, at 7:30 pm, in the Faculty Lounge (Room 201), SDU Main Building, University of Prince Edward Island.

Lauren Rainford and Elias Cohen named UPEI Panther Athletes of the Week
Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Athletes of the Week for November 14–20 are Lauren Rainford (women’s basketball) and Elias Cohen (men’s hockey).

7:00 pm: The UPEI Men’s Hockey Panthers (5-9) host the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (8-4-2) at MacLauchlan Arena. The Panthers won both games in their previous matchups, outscoring the Aigles Bleus 9-4.
Transgender Day of Remembrance
The Transgender Day of Remembrance was created in 1999 by Gwendolyn Ann Smith, a transgender woman and activist, to memorialize the murder of Rita Hester in Allston, Massachusetts. What began as a web-based initiative has now grown into an international event observed annually on November 20.
