World Blood Donor Day is celebrated every year by people around the world on June 14, the birthday anniversary of Karl Landsteiner who was awarded the Nobel Prize for his discovery of the ABO blood group system. Dr. Landsteiner was born in Austria and emigrated to the United States of America in 1923. His background was in biology, and he was a physician and immunologist. He worked at the Rockefeller Institute.

World Blood Donor Day was organized in 2004 for the first time to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank donors for their voluntary life-saving gifts of blood. Transfusion of blood and blood products helps to save millions of lives each year and improve the quality of life of individuals who rely on blood and blood products to live.

To learn more about donating blood, plasma, stem cells, or organ/tissue donation go to blood.ca.  You can book online appointments to donate by choosing Charlottetown as your site.

The introduction of readily available AI resources provides a catalyst for better assessment practices. Enacting the principles of good assessment becomes even more pressing as we prepare our students to work and live with artificial intelligence. This guide from the Centre for Research in Assessment and Digital Learning (CRADLE) identifies two sets of recommendations that enhance student development as well as promoting academic integrity. It makes suggestions for: 1) how the principles of assessment design can be enacted in a time of genAI; and 2) how assessment practices can immediately take account of genAI, including ChatGPT. Here's a link to the guide.

Our UPEI Campus Foodbank will continue to be open to students each Wednesday from 2:00--6:00 pm.  News reports of high food insecurity ring true in our experience as the number of student weekly visits is higher than this time last year.

Please use this link to volunteer for one-hour time slots for July, August, and yes, even September if you can think that far ahead.

As always, thank you!
