UPEI professor and author Deirdre Kessler will give a public reading on Saturday, 12 September, 7 pm, at the Macphail Homestead in Orwell.
Deirdre will reading new poems, excerpts from a recently published memoir, Mother Country, and from a novel in progress.
The setting will be the Great Room of Sir Andrew Macphail’s house in Orwell. The free public reading is sponsored by The Writers’ Union of Canada, the Canada Council for the Arts, and the Macphail Homestead.
Deirdre Kessler is a poet and author of 15 books for young people and a dozen books of nonfiction for adults. Recently published are a memoir, Mother Country, published by Oberon Press (Dec. 2014) and Born! A foal, five kittens, and Confederation, a children’s book illustrated by Brenda Jones set in Charlottetown in 1864, which received a 2015 P.E.I. Museum & Heritage Foundation writing award and a 2015 City of Charlottetown Heritage Award. Deirdre teaches creative writing, children’s literature, and the course on L.M. Montgomery with UPEI’s Department of English. She is a recipient of a UPEI Award for Teaching Excellence.

The Macphail Homestead, 271 Macphail Park Road, Orwell, is a 20-minute drive from Charlottetown.

Facilities Management wishes to advise the campus community that general parking lot spaces are still available for purchase, but spaces for designated lots have now been sold out.
Students can purchase a campus parking permit at the Parking Kiosk located on the main level of the W.A. Murphy Student Centre, Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 3:30 pm, until September 26. After that date they will be available from the Facilities Management Office (in the Central Utility Building) from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm weekdays or until permits sell out.
Staff and faculty can purchase campus parking permits from the Facilities Management Office (Central Utility Building) starting August 10, 2015, Monday to Friday, 9:30 am to 3:30 pm; or at the Parking Kiosk located on the main level of the W. A. Murphy Student Centre (kiosk operating August 26 to September 26, 2015 from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm).
