In recognition of the outstanding performance of our faculty and staff and their dedication to students and the community, a number of annual awards have been created to acknowledge their efforts and achievements, and to celebrate their contributions to our success as an institution. These awards will be presented at the Celebration of Colleagues ceremony on Wednesday, May 7 from 2-4 pm in McMillan Hall, W.A. Murphy Student Centre. All students, staff, and faculty are invited to attend.

Faculty Recognition Night will be held Wednesday, May 7, beginning at 7:00 pm. (Reception: 6:30 pm) at the Culinary Institute. This event honours the winners of the Hessian Award for Excellence in Teaching and the UPEI Merit Award for Scholarly Achievement. Tickets are $50.00 each (with a subsidized price of $25.00 for FA members and their guests), and can be pre-ordered at the Faculty Association Office, Main Bldg., Room 315, Ext. 0438. Deadline for reserving tickets is Friday, noon, May 2. Faculty Recognition Night is co-sponsored by the UPEI Faculty Association and the Office of the President.
WISE (Women in Science and Engineering) is hosting an event for girls grades 7-9 this coming Friday, May 2. We're still looking for women with science backgrounds and working experiences to join in our "meet role models" event from 3-4 pm. Please consider donating your time. The Department of Student Affairs will be closed on April 29 for its annual staff meeting day. Scheduled exams in Student Affairs for that day will continue and all things scheduled will continue - but the department will be closed to the public. The receptionist will be in the department - so in case of emergency, call the department and the receptionist will get a hold of the manager. Thanks for your understanding. This year's North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) week events at UPEI will take place on Monday, May 5 in AVC 287 North. The following events will take place: ​​ "Speak Up for Workplace Safety!" 1-2:30 pm- Are you looking to challenge the silence that can lead to unsafe practices and conditions? Talking to the boss or a co-worker about safety can be difficult for many workers. This session can help everyone understand why there is often a culture of silence in our workplace and learn ways to overcome it, and will demonstrate a communication technique to bring safety issues to the forefront. Facilitated by Lori Wakelin, Education Consultant. 5th annual UPEI Safety Champion Award presentation/reception 2:30-2:45 pm ​​ "Employer Strategies for Keeping Young Workers Safe" 2:45-4:00 pm - Do you have young workers on staff, or do you plan to when PEI's finer weather arrives? This session offers helpful direction to employers and supervisors with youth in their midst, and includes ideas for training and supervision, successful strategies for communicating with youth, and youth resources available to PEI employers. Facilitated by Clare Waddell, Youth Education Consultant.
