Please take a few moments before leaving for the long weekend to turn off any unnecessary equipment (e.g. computers, monitors, printers, speakers, etc). The reduced loads improve overall campus energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. A period of closure for the University offers a great opportunity to save money on utilities. Past history has shown that very few people occupy the buildings for any substantial time during the holidays. With this in mind, buildings will be heated/cooled according to University Temperature Guidelines (http://www.upei.ca/facilities/sustainability/energy-management/guidelin…) during the Easter weekend with the assumption that buildings are unoccupied. The exception will be buildings that contain special collections or sensitive equipment, or buildings that are officially open during the holidays.
Dr. Daniel Elad from Kimron Veterinary Institute in Israel is giving a seminar Thursday, April 17 in AVC-A, at 9:30 am, titled "Challenges Facing the Israeli Veterinary Services and Highlights of Some Animal Infectious Diseases in Israel." Dr. Elad is Head of the Division of Bacteriology and Mycological Laboratory at Kimron Veterinary Institute. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Interested in going to vet school? The Atlantic Veterinary College, University of Prince Edward Island, is offering an exciting, academically based program to help students understand what is involved in veterinary medicine education. The AVC Summer Academy provides participants with a "big picture" of veterinary school through classroom lectures, field trips, and hands-on sessions. Participants explore the curriculum covered in each year of the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program. Eligibility is based on those who are currently enrolled in, or who have been accepted into, university. Participants must have a minimum B+ (77%) average or GPA 3.3, and be 18 years of age or older. For more information, please visit upei.ca/avc/summerprograms. The deadline for applications is May 9, 2014
