Building on last year’s Respectful Workplace sessions, the Healthy Campus Committee is again sponsoring sessions on creating and maintaining a respectful workplace at UPEI. Last year’s sessions, facilitated by Jan Link, were well received and well attended. Respectful workplace behaviours impact everyone on campus and it is the hope of the Healthy Campus Committee that everyone takes the opportunity to attend a session. Workplace facilitator Gerry Hopkirk, and a former acting Dean of Education at UPEI, will be offering two new sessions over the next few weeks. The overarching theme will be “Creating A Positive Workplace Environment.” The format will be interactive using simulations, discussion, and storytelling. Topics will include: · building trust and eliminating betrayal, · respecting diversity, · working collaboratively, · making safe change, · resolving conflict positively, and · building on strengths. These sessions are an outcome of the 2012 employee engagement survey and have the support of the University’s senior administration who agree that this is a very important topic to help drive a positive workplace culture. We would encourage you to attend one of the two sessions below and would ask that you please register with Human Resources at humanresource@upei.ca for one of the following dates/times: Wednesday, January 29, 2014 Time: 1:00–3:00 Location: TBA Wednesday, February 5, 2014 Time: 10:00–12:00 Location: TBA Thank you. Join us Friday, January 24 at 2:30 pm in the 2nd floor lounge of the Kelley Building to celebrate the first recipients of the Katherine Schultz Research Recognition Awards. Dr. Schultz, who served as UPEI's first Vice-President Research, established these awards to honour UPEI faculty, staff, and volunteers who play a critical role in supporting research endeavours. The research success of an institution rests fundamentally on the excellence, dedication, and insights of its researchers and their teams of collaborators, trainees, students, and technicians. However, their success also rests on the work of those who might be labelled the “unsung heroes” of the research enterprise – that is, those whose work behind the scenes make it all possible. Without the dedication, professionalism, and commitment of these individuals, our researchers and their research endeavours would be seriously constrained. Please join us for the awards; a small reception will follow.
