“Five great aquaculture projects I have cancelled (and why)”
How did a veterinary graduate from AVC end up as the chief scientist for a
National Centre for Aquaculture and Biotechnology in New Zealand? What is
the Centre mandate and what happens when you put a veterinarian in charge
of group of dedicated researchers (and their research budgets)?
This presentation will include a brief introduction to New Zealand’s
National Institute for Water and Atmospheric Research, how applied research
is organized and supported in New Zealand and the challenge of balancing
the interests and motivations of researchers (and their sense of
entitlement) with the core purposes of the organization.
Date: Wednesday, September 25
Time: 12:30- 1:20 pm
Location: AVC Lecture Theatre A
Everyone welcome
UPEI will celebrate International Day of Peace on Friday, September 20 at 12:30 pm at the Chaplaincy Centre. Come by for a "peace" of cake, a moment of silence, local musical talent, and more!
The International Day of Peace takes place on Saturday, September 21. In 2002, the UN General Assembly officially declared September 21 as the permanent annual date for the International Day of Peace. For more information contact MaryEllen O'Brien at buddy@upeisu.ca.
Join us Friday, September 20 for an open house to celebrate renovations to
the Qualitative Research Lab.
The UPEI Qualitative Research Lab (QRL) provides a range of equipment and
training to outfit researchers for field work in the community and a
facility to analyze data and prepare scholarly works.
The lab provides remote data acquisition technology to capture stories,
experiences and cultures of interest. Researchers access
transcription analysis and dissemination technologies. The QRL’s
state-of-the-art Co-Laboratory to meet and share information with
researchers around the world.
The open house runs from 9-11 am on Friday, September 20. Light
refreshments will be available. The lab is located in room 413 of Dalton
Hall.
The QRL is led by Dr. Kate Tilleczek, Canada Research Chair in Youth
Cultures and Transitions, and is created through funding from the Canada
Foundation for Innovation (CFI). For more information, visit
katetilleczek.ca, or contact cyct@upei.ca.
Join us for a Welcome Wine and Cheese on Tuesday, September 24 at 7:00 pm in McMillan Hall, W.A. Murphy Student Centre. There will be live entertainment, refreshments, and a cash bar. Staff and faculty are welcome to attend.
