Registration deadline for 2024 Dr. Tim Ogilvie AVC Vet Camp
Today is the deadline to register for the Atlantic Veterinary College's award-winning Dr. Tim Ogilvie AVC Vet Camps, taking place July 8-August 2. This program offers a behind-the-scenes peek into the world of veterinary medicine—from doing physical examinations on dogs and horses to learning how to dress like a surgeon and suturing on a silicon suture pad. You will be amazed at what you will see, learn, and do! Registration is required to attend this camp.
Public art exhibition reception at Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation
Creative PEI will host a public reception for “Calamity: A Torrent and a Trickle,” a solo exhibition featuring drawings by Climate Artist-in-Residence Lisa Theriault, at the Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation (CCCCA), St. Peter’s Bay, on Saturday, February 17, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.
Exciting volunteer opportunity for UPEI faculty and staff
UPEI faculty and staff have an exciting opportunity to volunteer with Academics Without Borders (AWB) in the area of online learning support and facilitation for AWB projects.
UPEI recently joined the Academics Without Borders/Universitaires sans frontières Network, a consortium of Canadian universities and colleges that support the mission of the organization. Dr. Ann Braithwaite is on the AWB board and the contact person for UPEI.
ACENET: Introduction to Python
Join ACENET and Ocean Tracking Network (OTN) in our Introduction to Python workshop series. Over three weeks, we will explore data analysis and visualization with Python, based on the Software Carpentry Lessons. UPEI student earns McCall MacBain Regional Award
Reilly Sullivan, an honours biology student at the University of Prince Edward Island, has been awarded a $5,000 McCall MacBain Regional Award. She placed among the top 95 of more than 700 Canadian applicants this year.
The scholarship recognizes engaged student leaders who have demonstrated exceptional character, community engagement, leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit, academic strength, and intellectual curiosity. It provides funding for a full-time master’s or professional program at any public university in Canada.
AVC faculty and vet students improve lives of people and animals in Kenya
Earlier in January, four fourth-year doctor of veterinary medicine students from the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) packed their bags—and their years of education—and headed off for an unforgettable experience more than 10,000 kilometers away.
The students travelled to Meru County, Kenya, where they worked with smallholder farmers to enhance the health, productivity, and living conditions for dairy cattle and donkeys.
